The article presents studies of recent decades conducted by foreign experts on the occurrence of stuttering, the intensity of its symptoms and the probability of spontaneous recovery of fluent speech. It is shown that stuttering is determined by genetic and epigenetic factors. Genetic factors include certain loci in the genome. Epigenetic factors include relationships and emotional atmosphere in a family, presence/absence of support from siblings or parents.

Key words: stuttering; child; genetic factors; family factors; foreign studies.
